In response to the very generally expressed desire ou the part of the settlers of Waikato, Mr Win. Taylor, of Greenhill, Te Awamutu, has decided not to retire from the stud' business. lions of the highest quality and of strains entirely new to the district. HUNTING SEASON. The hunting season will be opened in Waikato on Saturday next, when, it is expected that there ■will be a large attendance of members. The club's finances are in a very healthy condition, and there is every prospect of a most successful season. WAITOA ROAD BOARD. At the last meeting of the Waitoa Road Board a deputation, consisting of Messrs R. Burke, R. Parr, ,T. Jackson, W. P. Chepmell, A. J. Farmer, and J. Barrie were appointed to interview Mr Poole with a view to arranging for a drain to run through his property. The Government has agreed to contribute £130 toward* this work. It was decided to terminate Bellamy's contract on the Piako Road north of Morrinsv:lle, and fine him for overtime. Fresh tendeio are to be called for the work. The following tenders were accepted for various works: —Sanding on Stanley's Road, E. Yoysey, 1/4 per yard; Taylor's Road drain, E. Voysey, £3 10/; Cox's Road contract, W. Lasby, £9 15/. The engineer reported that Hnff and Kearn £ had not commenced Bradley's drain contract. The. Board decided to forfeit the deposit and call for fresh tenders for the work. Acounts totalling about £95 ■ were passed. . . " : HUNTLY FOOTBALL CLUE. ; A meeting of those, interested in the resuscitation of the Huntly Football Club was hrfd in the Huntly Hotel on Monday evening last. Mr A. M. Labatt presiding. It was decided t o place a team in the field for the cap competition this year, and the following officers were appointed:-— Patron: Mr Lang, M.H.R.; president: Capt. E. R. Ralph; vice-presidents: Messrs J. P. Bailey, J.P., J. Bailey, Bollard and P. Bo'lton (Taupiri), N. D. Coehrane, E. B. Cox, E. A. Dawson, J. Elliott, W. Ellison, E. J. Farrell, M. Friar, P. Guthrie, L. B. Harris, jun., W. Lutener, J. Nicholla, Simmelhag, sen., M. N. Skelton, and E. V. Ralph; seeretarj-, Mr Norman Hill. Tt was resolved to join the Waikato Rugby Union, and Messrs Hall and Housley were appointed delegates. The first practice will be held on Saturday next, and in order 1o meet the convenience of the Tatipiri members a practice will be held in that township on the third Saturday of every month. The selection committee is composed of Messrs' Gleeson, Housley, Marshall, Hall and Scherff, while Messrs R. Cox, J. Brooks, C. Starr, M. N. Skelton, J. Hall, R. Welsh, B. Housley, 0. Scherff, Marshall, W. Gleeson. J. Harris, H. Peckham, C. Lovell and M. Gleeson constitute the working committee. WAIKATO RUGBY UNION. The annual meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union will be held at the Commercial Hotel, Hamilton, oil Saturday evening, As far as can be seen there will be three teams in the oap competition this year—Cam- • bridge, Huntly, and Hamilton. On Tuesday last Dr. Bre.vyis, act*., ing- under instnietions from tht* Ngaruawahia Town Board as the local Board of Health, made a house to house inspection of the residences . in the district, and has sent in his report to the Board. On the whole the buildings were found to be in a satisfactory state, but one or two instances of a' disgraceful state of affairs was disclosed. MEMORIAL TO CAPT. KUNCTMAtf! The residents of Marshtneadows held a meeting to consider what would be a suitable memorial 5 to the' memory of the late Capt. Runciman. It was decided that it shall take the form of an enlarged bromide photograph of the late gentleman and that it shall be hung in the schoolroom. The idea was readily taken up,-sub-, scription lists opened at once, and ai committee, consisting of Messrs J. M. Jones, J. J. Graham, W. Coop, and Miss Alley appointed to carry out the proposal.
