WAIHI NOTES.

WAIHI. this day
In the "Star's" article on Waihi's progress it was inadvertently mentioned that the Bank of New Zealand had a branch office here. It should have read the National Bank of New Zealand. Mr Craufurd Brown is manager.
Owing to the Tangye pumps not being able to cope with the water in the Grand Junction mine, the drawlift is being put into working order. The sinking operations at the C shaft have been suspended for some time till the winding gear is erected.
The brass band held their fortnightly social in Tanner's Hall on Wednesday evening last. A most enjoyable time was spent. The music was supplied by the band. About 35 couples were present. Light refreshments were handed round about midnight. Mr Hennessy discharged the duties of M.C. to everyone's satisfaction. These socials ure becoming very popular indeed, though they have only been recently instituted. Mr Johnson, the band secretary, is very energetic in making these a success.
The weather is now much finer, and the roads drying.
The Natives' Association has now been given a start here, and it is to be hoped that all colonials will stick shoulder to shoulder and make it a success.
