Captain Jackson, of the City Rifles, has volunteered for the Fifth Contingent, and has been ao,c%?f_i.""and placed in charge of the Otago section and camp tit Tahuna Park. There are 74 horses in this camp, and the men are doing excellent work, and are receiving a thorough grounding. About 90 men have passed all the tests.

Lieutenant-Colonel Webb will take charge at Wellington if Colonel Newall goes to tlie Cape with the Fifth Contingent. If Colonel New-all does not go Lieiif.-Colonel Webb lias agreed to take his place.
