The attendance was good, and the sport very interesting. Tiie race for the Cup furnished one of the finest finishes ever seen on the ground, Tire and Tortulla fighting every inch of the way, Mr Gollan's gelding barely getting home. Tire foutcht out the finish very stubbornly, and it was the best form the Medallion gelding has displayed since his return from Australia. The feature of the meeting was the success of the Hon. J. D. Ormotid's stable, that sportsman securing four out of tiie eight events. The sum of £5725 went through the tolulis'ato.'.

Skobeloff was the first to break the line, having Coronet as his nearest attendant, and then came Temeraire, Tortulla, Tire, Korematuku, and Wlll-o'-the-Wisp. In this order they passed the stand tlio lirst time, but rounding the top bend Tire was brought up fast on the outside, and Tortulla also improved her position. At the back stretch Coronet cried enough, and Skobeloff and Temeraire also fell back, leaving Tire in command, with Tortulla in hot pursuit. About 100 yards from home these two got on terms, and a mog nificent neck-and-neck race ensued .up tiie straight, the whips being out on both. Tire just managed to gain a slight advantage in the last stride, and won by a short head. Skobeloff was a couple of lengths away, third, Korematuku fourth, Coronet fifth,Will-o'-the-Wisp and Temeraire last. Time, 2m 35 3-ss. On the totalisator, £1080. Dividend, £4 3/.
