SCRIPTURE GIFT ASSOCIATION.
o The annual meeting of subscribers of the Auckland Scripture Gift Association was held last evening at the depot. The report showed that notwithstanding some slight diminution in income the Association was in a very flourishing condition, and that there had again been, a very large distribution of free gifts. They had now 10 day schools for young children, in which the Holy Scriptures were read and taught.' Eight of these schools were within the city, and two outside. Ihere was an average attendance of over 300 scholars. A free and liberal supply of reading matter had been gifted to schools, public libraries, ships, reading rooms, hospitals, camps, and bush homes. Their Trust Board congratulated the subscribers of the Association on their continuing to be unsectarian. They regretted that the Word of God was still excluded from the public schools of the colony. The thanks of the Trust Board were again due to all subscribers and friends of the Association who had in every manner granted their sympathy and aid during the past ,year. Special thanks were recorded to the executive of the Religious Tract Society, London, Messrs Macky, Logan <fc Steen, Messrs Smith and Caughey, the Northern Steamship Company, and many others too numerous to mention. The balance-sheet for the year ending February 28, 1900. showed a sum of £15 15/1 standing at he credit of the Association. Receipts totalled £236 6/, including subscriptions £218 3/9. The members forming the Trust Board oflast year were re-elected, with Messrs A. Thorne, J. Longmore, and S. Rout as executive. Mr A. Thorne was reelected secretary, and Mr S. Rout treasurer.
