AUCKLAND ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Auck- s^ land Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon, Mr C. E. S. Gillies in the chair.
The monthly statement of accounts showed the receipts to be £411 8/1, including a balance of £307 15/9 in bank at.the beginning of the month. The expenditure for the month left a, balance in the B.N.Z. on December 12th of £369 1/9, and £107 8/4 in the Savings Bank. The secretary (Mr Cheeseman) stated that the New South Wales Fishery Board had paid the Society £ 100 for trout ova, and' had intimated that they would require a further lot for next year. Altogether the Society's receipts from fish ova alone had been close on £200, which was regarded as very satisfactory. It was stated that a consignment of Virginian quail were expected to arrive from America by the next mail.
The curator's monthly report showed that 28,500 fry had been liberated during the month in various streams in the Auckland district, making a total of 78,500 to date. From 20,000 to 25,000 were estimated to be still on hand, and the curator asked for directions as to the disposal of these. ■ ■ •' I-.
It was decided to instruct the curator to liberate 2000' or 3000 fry in the , Waiomib River, 8000 in the Waikato River itself, placing 2000 at Ngaruawahia and the same number at Hnntly, at Mercer, and at Rangiriri, 1000 at Nihotapu Creek, and 1000 in the Piako River.
Mr Gillies brought up the question of perch fishing, which he considered would proye popular if introduced into Auckland. It was decided to write to the Hawera Acclimatisation Society, asking for a supply of perch.
