THE NEW MEMBERS.
Mr .Tames Ben net, the newly elected member for Tuapeka, is chairman of the ■County Council, having held that, position for the sixth year in succession. Mr Bcnnetis likewise a member •of the Tuapeka Licensing Committee, standing high, on the poll taken acouple of years ago. He rakes a warm interest Jn educational and other mat" fers. In 1887 'he opposed the late Mr «T. C. Brown for the Tuapeka seat, and ■although unsuccessful made a desperately good fight, beimg- beaten by oibout forty, votes. • For many years Mr Bennet has been engaged at Rae's Junction in agrucultural' and pastoral pursluits. and- is looked -upon as a very successmul type of settler. He-is a very shrewd, level-headed, practical irian. He is a. very ardent admirer of tlie Premier and'of the Minister of Lands, and is -certain to give a loyal and unswerving support to the policy measures of the Government.
