EDEN.
The scrutiny of the votes polled for Eden lasted until nearly 11 o'clock on Saturday eveningl. As several apparent irregularities were discovered a further scrutiny took, place to-day. At first it was thought eight cases of duplicate voting had occurred, but some of these subsequently proved errors in ticking- off. The scrutiny will not be completed until to-morrow. With regard <o the votes thrown out because the papers did not bear the Returning Officer's stamp upon them, the Act .is very emphatic that no vote shall'be. allowed Avhieh has not' the Returning ."Officer's stamp upon the paper. This is requisite to prevent the. putting in"of "bogus voting-papers.- If either party is desirous, of testing the question the proper procedure would be : by application to the Court, and altho*ug-h the Governor has power to validate irregularities-in an election, validate .irregularities .in an election, the reception of . inistamped votingpapers is so expressly barred by statute that these could scarcely be validated, although the Court might possibly annul^the whole election.
