DEATH OF MR W. H. HAZARD.

The many friends of Mr W. H. .Hazard, the well-known gunsmith of Queen-street, will learn with sincere regret of his rather sudden death after merely four days' sickness from influenza. The deceased, during his quarter of a century's residence in this colony, maintained an excellent character as a thoroughly honourable and upright gentleman, ever willing to aid others and courteous to all. Although of English parentage, Mr Hazard was born in Calais, and lived in his younger days in the Channel Islands.- Early in life he joined the Royal Navy, and saw service with the fleet during the Crimean War. He also threw in his lot with Garibaldi in the struggle for Italy's freedom. Upon arriving in the colonies Mr Hazard naturally went into the volunteers, and was at one time Capt. of the Thames Haunaki Rifles. He was a capital shot, and won the 50 guinea gold watch presented by Sir Julius Vogel for competition between Auckland and Thames Volunteers. Deceased leaves two sons and three daughters
