j DEATH OF MR H. N. ABBOTT. We regret to announce the death of Mr -H. N. Abbott, who passed away |at Dunedin on Saturday last about I mid-day. Mr Abbott had gone to Dun- . edin with his wife and family, to un- : dergo an operation for cataract in the eye, but it was not performed ! owing to the delicate state of the | patient's health. Deceased was a very j old resident of Auckland, and in his business* dealings he was a man of strict integrity, and all round he was i universally liked. In his early days I he engaged in gold mining in AustraI lia, and was successful financially. He ! was also on the West Coast in the 1 prosperous mining days. Deceased was an ideal hotelkeeper in the early days, | and latterly in the United Service j Hotel, in which he carried on a com- ! mercial business on up-to-date lines. .Mr Abbott built the present- Opera House, and during his long connection with catering for amusement; ! lovers lie introduced some of the best artists that have visited Auckland. A j notable company was that of Williami son, Garner, and Musgrove's, which i | opened the Opera House with "Pa-1 ; tletiee."' Deceased was a good living \ | man, and his wife and two daughters!
