THAMES, "this day. MINERS' WAGES.
A .special meeting'of the Committee of the Thames Miners' Union was held last night for the purpose of deciding whether the scale of. wages drawn up by the Waihi branch or the Thames branch should be. placed . before the . Conciliation Board as the rate to be paid to up-country miners. The scale of wages drawn up by the Waihi branch advocated an increase in wages all round. After a deal of discussion it was decided to adopt the rate, of wages drawn up by the Thames branch, the Committee being of opinion that.it would be unwise to advocate a higher rate of wages.
Shortly before ''knock-off" time yesterday afternoon a young man named Joseph Thornton, of Comer's tribute party in the surface section of the Caledonian mine, met with a slight accident, whilst working in the stope. A fall of earth came away froth the hanging-wall portion of the reefs, striking him on the left shoulder and breaking his collarbone. He was taken to the Hospital, wher Dr. Williams attended to his injury, and then. Thornton proceeded to his home. •
