To-day the Australian cricketers began a match at Birmingham against the following eleven representing the Midland Counties:—A. 0. Jones, G. L. Jessop, Diver, J. Hulme, S. Santall, 11. Wrathall, Arnold, Wilson, A. A. Lilley, W. G. Quaife, and F. H. B. Champain. Hill, Wbrrall and Johns are standing out. of the. Australian team. The weather is. showery and the attendance only fair. The wicket is easy. The Australians batted first, McLeod and Noble opening the innings to the ; bowling of Wilson and Hulme. J j The colonials made a poor start-, j McLeod was dismissed without scor- , ing, and the second wicket fell for 11. Trumble, however, played a fine innings, He made 50 in 80 minutes, including seven fours.
