NEWMARKET.

The fortnightly meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening in the Council Chambers, there being present the Mayor (Mr J. M. Laxon, in the chair), Crs. MeColl, Smerdon, Edgerley, Laurie, Angus and Whyman. Eden-street. — A request from Mr Smethurst for the kerbing of the footpath in Eden-street was referred to. the Streets Committee to report. Nuisance.—Mr J. A. Prince wrote complaining that the drainage from Mr Schumaker's stable ran into his back yard.—The inspector of nuisancewas instructed to see that the nuisance ■was abated. Nightsoil. —Several ratepayers made ,complaints in regard to the removal of nightsoil, and the contractor was lined in two cases "for inattention. — The contractor was requested to discontinue working on Sunday night. Drainage.—Messrs Devore and Cooper wrote on behalf of Mr J. Shaw, Who recently constructed a drain in the borough, claiming £G 6/ as extras for deviation in connection with the drain.—Cr. Whyman stated that there -vas no deviation made and that no extra work had been done.—lt was resolved to disclaim any liability. Works.—The foreman of works was Instructed to obtain extra labour and to carry out repairs to street drains. S«oria Pit. — Cr, Whyman reported

that the Newmarket section of the scoria pit was being used by Mt. Eden and One Tree Hill district.--It was decided to write to Mr Cochrane, the last Chairman of the Trust Board, asking him to call a meeting of delegates to define the sections owned by the various districts.
