OBITUARY.
The Rev. Thomas Hamer died at Wellington on June 21 at an advanced acre. The decease of this gentleman breaks one of the links connecting the present generation with the early days of Auckland. It was in October, 1851, that Mr Hamer arrived here in the ship Casl -re, he having been sent out by the London Mission Society for the purpose of founding an Independent Church in Auckland. About four years ago the Rev. Mr Hamer removed to Wellington, where his son, the popular private secretary to the Premier, resides. Mr Hamer is also survived by two daughters, one of whom is married to Mr Callender, and the other to Mr H. S. Ruddock, sharebroker, in this city. Mr Hamer's sister, who came out with him in 1851, Mrs Fleming, is also resident in Auckland.
