THE FIRE BRIGADE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—l notice in the papers last week a reference by the Mayor to the improvement of the Fire Brigade and Its appliances. To the best of ray belief there is not such a thing in Auckland as a moveable fire escape, such as one used to see in London. Drawn either by men or horses, there ought to be at least three in various parts of the city. The people living in the high buildings in Queen-street and other parts of the town would be simply burnt to death, as there are many places without any fixed fire escapes, and where there aro any not enough in many instances, notably some of the tall hotels, the Arcade, and so on. Hoping my letter will serve to' draw attention to this most important subject,— I am, etc.,
GEORGE BULL.
