SERMONS IN THE "STAR."
(To the Editor.i
Sir.— l was very glad to see in your last night's issue digests of the sermons preached by different ministers on Sunday last. Such publication is a function in which the Press may render Immense service In helpIng the Pulpit in Its noble work of mental, moral, and spiritual uplifting of the people. Many a good sermon Is preached to the merest handful of listeners: but the newspaper reaches many thousands of readers who, over their fire or In the sick room, can quietly ponder over the published glad tidings of peace and goodwill.
The Rev. R. Ferguson's sprmon struck me as being very opportune. While on the one hand he recognised the truly good work thf Church of England has done In the misslou field, in civilisation, Christian culture, and in the paths of literature, he pointed to rocks ahead, of which all who observe the political, social, and religious trend cannot but feel anxious.—l am, etc.,

[We have also to acknowledge letters from the Rev. O. R. Hewlett, Papakura. who says: 'I thank you heartily for your efforts in this direction, and feel sure it will be a means of Increasing the usefulness and I hope the circulation of your valuable paper." The Rev. James P. Pinfold writes: "I think that the step will be appreciated by your readers as well as by the ministers." The Rev. D. J. Steele. Otahuhu, and the Rev. C. E. Davidson, Maungaturoto, also send congratulatory notes. Mr R. French sends congratulations, and says: "I think the new feature will be greatly appreciated."—Ed. E.S.]
