POLLARD'S OPERA CO.

LAST NIGHT OF "LA POUPEE,"

The eighth production of "La Poupee" last night by the Pollard Opera Company attracted a crowded audience. Miss May Beatty was in capital voice, and she was handed a lovely bouquet for her clever acting and singing. As Lancelot, Mr Chas. Carter again scored heavily, and he fairly divided the honours with Miss Beatty. "La Poupee," with all its charming effects, magnificent dressing, and tuneful music, will be staged to-night for the last time, when those who have not seen this clever work should avail themselves of this, the last chance. "La Poupee" is not only the best thing-- the clever Pollards have yet g-iven us, but it is without any "possible doubt whatever" one of tha most perfect representations of comic opera ever placed upon a New Zealand stage.

"SAUCY SUSIE."

Mr Pollard is a firm believer m contrasts,, so that after the almost grand operatic tone of "La Poupee" he dives into the realms of burlesque, and tomorrow night he will introduce the up-to-date nautical topical burlesque "Saucy Susie." This merry mixture of mimetic, histrionic and soltatory art is founded on the drama of "Black Eyed Susan," and it1 was written and adapted by Mr Bert Boyle, the successful writer of dozens of Australian pantomimes and part author of "DjinDjin" and "Matsa." The piece is: full of new; ideas, the "local hits" will be thoroughly up-to-date, while the music has been selected from the latest successes

On Saturday afternoon there will be a matinee performance of "Saucy Susie."

On Saturday night Mr Pollard will revive Yon Suppe's charming1 "work "Boccaccio." A feature of this production will be the first appearance in New Zealand of Miss Daisy Davis, who will be seen in the character of Fiametta. This young lady comes to us with the reputation of being the possessor of a fine soprano voice, highly cultured. She is also endowed with a charming stage presence, and the Sydney critics prophecy for her a successful stage career.
