THE GOVERNOR.

His Excellency the Governor, Lord •Ranfurly, Lady Eanfurly, and suite will leave Auckland at 9.20 v.m. tomorrow by special train for Onehunga, ■where they embark on the Government steamer Tutanekai for Wellington. His Excellency opens Parliament on Friday next. This morning Lord and Lady Ranfurly, accompanied by the Hon. C. Hill Trevor, paid a visit to St. Stephen's Native School. Parnell, where they were received by His Lordship the iPriinate (Bishop Cowie), the Rev. G. ! Mac-Murray, Mr H. B. Morton, Mr Smith (manager), and Mr Davis (headteacher). The vice-regal party first inspected the native boys at their 'athletic drill to music, under the. -superintendence of Prof. Carrollo, and were greatly pleased with the precision with which the various movements were executed. The school and classroom were then visited, and the pupils ! answered a number of questions exceedingly well. Their maps were inspected, and Lord and Lady Ranfurly were so much pleased with the work lof one of the scholars—a map of. the i North Island* by a boy named Kongo JHoani—that they asked for it and took it away with them, to the delight of the native lad who drew it.
