VISIT OF -lN ENGLISH TEAM.
NEW ZEALAND ASKED FOR A
GUARANTEE

WELLINGTON, this day,
At a meeting of the Managing Committee of New Zealand Rugby Union a letter was read from the secretary of the New South Wales Union stating that they are bringing out a teana from England on a guarantee of £4,000, and, therefore, desire to recoup expenses, and suggesting that the New Zealand Union should bear a proportion- of the cost. They would not accept half profits, not knowing what deductions would be proposed from the gross receipts. A substantial guarantee would be necessary. If no satisfactory proposal were received before the 17th February New Zealand w^ould be struck out of the programme, but the New South Wales Union desire to draw on New Zealand players against the Australasia-Eng-lish match. The lettei will be forwarded to local unions.
