THE STAR OF THE EAST
. . After a long and tedious passage of 133 flays the iron barque Star of the East arreted from New York this morning with a cargo of general merchandise. Mr A. aSTallis the chief officer, reports that the
barque left New York on August 31; had light winds and calms co tne Equator, wnich was crossed on Ucto._>er i>_. Tn<_ south-east trades proved poor, and tne meridian of the Cape was crossed on November 22, when lne vessel was !__. days out. Across the Southern Ocean a succession of strong westerly gales, accompanied by high weas, was met. The easting was run down in 45deg. S. Passed Tasmania on December 25., and across tutTasman Sea light winds and calms were experienced. Cape Maria was passed at noon on Sunday, Cape Brett at io a.m. on .Monday, and Tiri was maue at daylight yesteruay, the barque being lowed into port early this morning. The vessel comes to the agency of iviessrs Arnold, Cheney, • and Co., and on discharge of her cargo will load up with kauri gum for New York.
