THE GREY STATUE.
Tie Sir George Grey Statue Committee met last evening in the Council Chambers, Mr W. J. Speight presiding. The sub-committee appointed re the Memorial Day in the Domain on Feb-~ ruary 18 presented their report, and it was decided to ask the Council for the use of the Cricket Ground and pavilion on that date. It was decided to have three platforms, Bishops Cowie and Lei-ihan and the Mayor being asked to preside. The following gentlemen will be asked to act: as speakers:—Eight Hon. It. J. Seddon, Sir G. M. O'Rorke,::Hon. : W. Jennings, M.L.G., Revs. H. E. Dewsbury, G. MacMurray, Kabbi Goldstein,' Hon,. T. Thompson Captain D. H. McKenzie, Dr. J. L.CampbelT," Messrs J. McGowan, M.H3., Q- Aldridge, G. L. Peacocke, S. Nathan, F. J. Moss, J. M. Shera, J. A. Tole, W. J. Speight, F. E. Baume, W. J. Napier, and Theo., Cooper. It was. decided to ask the Executive of the Exhibition to devote the takings of one afternoon or evening to the fund. The chairman suggested that the old colonists now resident in England migM wish to contribute to the fund, and the secretary was authorised to write to the AgentGeneral, informing him of the movement, and requesting his; co-operation. The Hon. W. Jennings, M.L.C., the chairman, and Mr S. Nathan reported subscriptions amounting to £10. J. J. Holland, in reply to a question, stated that the first Sir George Grey Statue Fund amounted to £120 19/6. It was decided to ask the Mayor, Mr D. Goldie, to act as chairman of the Committee. 'I'he Committee resolved, with the consent of the Exhibition authorities, to place two collecting boxes in the Exhibition grounds.
