PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the members of the above Council was held last evening, when there were present Mr Hugh Campbell (Mayor), Councillors H. C. Tewsley.A. P. Friend, .7. McCabe, G. Cozens, J. Mowbray, J. Gilmour, Fitts, Briggs and Petford. Rates. —W. W. Duthie wrote complaining about his valuation being increased without due notice being given.—The Town Clerk said the Council was not bound to notify, but notices had, for all that, been sent out as usual.—lt was resolved to inform Mr Duthie of that fact. Charitable Aid.—The Charitable Aid Board wrote asking for the Council's contribution of £275 15/4. — The Treasurer reported that £140 12/6 subsidy had been stopped towards the contribution.—The letter was received. Typhoid. —Dr. Gordon reported a case of typhoid in St. George's Bay Eoad. Right of Way.—Mr A. Tempest wrote complaining that the trustees of St. Stephen's School had locked the gates oi the path through the School 'orounds yesterday. — Cr. Friend explained this was done once a year to retain, the right. The public had no ri°-ht to that road as. far. as he could learn.—Cr. Fitts said he feared many roads had been closed. He moved that a committee be set up to investigate the whole question of closing roads in the Bofoughi — This -was agreed to, Councillors Cozens, McCabe, Fitts, and the Mayor being appointed as a committee. Accounts to the extent of £109 9/7 were authorised to be paid. Manukau Road.—Cr. Petford drew attention to the necessity for tarring and sanding the footpath on ,the east side of Manukau Road.—This matter was referred to the Streets Committee. _-Cr Fitts wanted all the streets in the Borough looked to.—Cr. Briggs objected to going outside the recommendation of the Foreman of Works.— This was supported by Cr. Tewsley and Cr. Cozens.—A motion by Cr. Fitts that the whole matter be referred to the Streets Committee was negatived, and on the motion of Cr. Briggs the Foreman of Works was instructed to report footpaths that required tarring and sanding1. Water Supply.—On the motion of Or. Briffgs it was decided to notify all householders to connect with the main and not the adjoining house to secure a water supply. Drainage.—The Mayor gave notice that at the next meeting he would move 'That the necessary steps be taken to raise a loan and carry out a scheme of drainage for the Borough.'
