THE BRUNNER COLLIERY.
(By Telegraph.-Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day. Regarding the Brunner coal mines, for some weeks all work has been suspended owing to litigation between the widows of the men who were killed in the disaster and the Company. Some time ago the Inspector of Mines reported that unless the work was resumed, particularly in the higher levels, the coal supply would be lost, and there would be a diliiculty in continuing operations in other parts of the mine. This, together with the fact that the inmers have been idle during the whole or the time, is having a prejudicial effect on the finances of the Greymouth Harbour Jioard, and as the conditions of holding have not been complied with, the Govern*? rnent have decided to gi\ c the lessees notice that, unless they resume work in seven days and comply with all conditions the Crown will re-enter. The Government holds money due to the Company against which the Company owes rents and charges exceeding that amount.
