MINING RENTS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day. For some time past there has been a diihcuity in respect to the recovery of rents for licensed holdings in goldmuung claims, especially where there has been an exchange of title. Receivers of revenue under instruction from the Audit Department, have demanded two rentals where an exchange of title has been made, but grave doubt exists whether or not this charge can be legally sustained. The matter is now engaging the attention of the Minister for Mines, but Ministers are of opinion that if double rent is legal it is inequitable, and that two rentals ou"ht not to be paid for the same piece of land covering one claim. If it is decided that two rents can be legally enforced an amending Bill will be introduced next session to rectify the matter.
