WAIHI CONSOLIDATED
This Company is carrying out a large amount of prospecting work under the direction of Mr C. McLean, superintendent. The shaft has been sunk 220 ft and at that depth driving in a northwest direction is commenced. The large lode driven through at the 100 ft level was tapped and on being intersected proved to be 45ft wide, but of low grade. At the point of intersection a crosscut was continued to the north-west Avhich passed through innumerable stringers of quartz ranging from a few inches to several feet in width. This crosscut is now 306 ft past the main lode, and the two reefs intersected by itarebeing driven ontowardsthe north-east. One lode is sft wide and the other 6ft. Both so far are of low grade, although goldbearing, whilst the country incasing both lodes is of a first-class description, interlaced with bands of silica and highly mineralised. A considerable quantity of water is coming away from both reefs. The pump at tlie time of my visit was lifting 10,000 gallons per hour. No difficulty is anticipated with the water, as the pumping plant is a most complete one, having a lifting capacity of nearly 60,000 gallons per hour.
