CABLE BREVITIES.
Rasmakounen, the leader of the Abyssinian raiders, who after bis recent defeat by the Somalia organised a force of 20,000 men, is again ravaging Somaliland. In the Chamber of Deputies, M. Goblet's proposal to revive scrutin de liste, which was repealed in 1889 and the method of election by scrutin d' arrondissemcnt substituted, has been referred to a committee of tbe Chamber.
The man who attempted to assassinate Sir Wilfred Laurier, the Premier of Canada, by shooting at him with a revolver, has been declared insane, and incarcerated in a lunatic asylum. Mr Chamberlain has forwarded to the Queen the messages of condolence sent by the Australasian Governors in connection with the death of the Duchess of Teck.
After lying for six months on tbe Stockton Beach, Newcastle, the barque Adderley has been successfully floated. This is the first vessel ever recovered from this fatal beach.
Mr Joseph Walton, a Liberal, has been elected by a majority of 3,290 for the vacancy for the Barnsley division of Yorkshire caused by the succession of Lord Coinpton to a peerage.
