Chkistchurch, Tuesday. At the Women's Council this afternoon Mrs Louisa Blake read a paper on "Old Age Pensions," advocating pensions for all over 65, irrespective of class or wealth. The methods for raising the money suggested were : Income tax, land tax, and reserves of land. A resolution in favour of a universal system of old age pensions was carried by 11 to 4. On the motion of Mrs Sheppard, a resolution expressing to Sir John Hall on his departure for England grateful remembrance of bis efforts on behalf of womeu's suffrage was carried unanimously. In the evening a resolution of the committee affirming the necessity of refuting Lady Stoub's protest against the acbion of bhe executive, and asserting that they bad in no cense failed in bheir duty, was confirmed unanimously. Mrs Bullock's motion thab district courb judges and stipendiary magistrates should be placed in the same position as judges of the higher courts in respect to tenure of office and fixity of salary was negatived by Bi_c bo one. Mrs Hendre read a paper on " Equal Pay for Equal Work," pointing oub thab ib was j only jusb that women should receive the same pay as men when they did the same work, and did ib as well. She suggested combinabion among women to raise bhe standard of women's work. It was unanimously resolved thab the Council is of opinion thab in all callings where men and women are engaged in bhe same work an equal wage should be paid for equal work,
