VISITED BY THE GOVERNOR,
The Governor, Lord Glasgow, accompanied by Lady Glasgow and Captain Clayton, A.D.C., paid a viaib yesterday to the Roman Catholic scholastic and charitable iuatitu-' tions in Ponsonby. The viceregal party visited the Home of the Little Sisters of bhe Poor, St. Mary's Orphanage ("/Star of the Sea"), and the Young Ladiea' High School, ab bhe Convent. His Lordship Bißnop Lock, accompanied ,by his private secretary, Father Purbon, showed the visitors over bhe institutions. Ab the Home of the Libble Sisters of the Poor, Lord Glasgow received an> address from one ,of the inmates, an old Crimean veteran vnamed Smith, who wore medals ;/■ for various military services in bhe British Army, the first being earned in India in the Sikh Campaign under Lord Gougb, nearly half a century ago. The Governor made a kindly address to the old people, and also spoke to the children in the Orphan Home, where Lady Glasgow obtained a half-holiday from the, Lady Superior for the children, who presented Lord and Lady Glasgow with bouquets of flowers. The Young Ladies' High School was visited for the purpose of distributing the certificates of the South Kensington Society of Arts bo bhe successful prize-winnera, 15 oub of 16 competiborg. The pupils presented an address to the Governor, who bhen presented the certificabeßbd the winners. A holiday was here also granted to the pupils in honor of the vice-regal visit. The "Governor expressed himself greatly pleased with the singing and pianoforte playing of the girls. Subsequently, the party were entertained ab afbernoon tea ab Bishop Luck's residence.
