BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board o Education was held to-day. Present: Mr R. Udv (Chairman), and Messrs Muir, Luke,' Wilding,. Lambe, Woodward, and Rev. J. Bates. Chairman's Report. — This reporb, which was adopted, stated among osher things :—Coromandel: Granted £1 10s to repair roof of school porch. > .Lucaa Creek and Wairoa South : Explanation has been sent to Committees regarding payment of school fund allowance. School fund accounts : Committees of Mount Albert and Ohinemuri school districts have been again requested to forward their accounts for audit as required by law. Waiotahi: Granted £2 to paint fence of Waiotahi Creek School. Teachers.—The resignation of Miss M. R. 8. McQuade, assistant, Waiokaraka School, had been received. Commissioner.—Mr Geo. Martin was appointed Commissioner of the Pakia School district. Henderson's Mill.—A communication was read from John Huescon, Crawford Baillie and Robert Cranwell, under date 9th June, stating that the recent election of a School Committee was conducted informally, and claiming that the election be declared invalid for reasons stated, and that a Commissioner be appointed.—The Chairman pointed out that there had been two elections at Henderson. — The communication was referred to the Committee. Financial. — The Board's balances to date were read as follows :—Education fund, credit £522 3s 6d; building fund, credit £314 3s6d; total, £836 7e. Girls' High School, credit 19a Bd. Papakuba Valley. — A petition irom householders of the Papakura Valley school district, containing 25 signatures, was presented by JW r R J. Middleton, asking that tne present «;;-■ til arrangements in the district bemaif.it od intact. Tbepetitioners were of opiniu; hat the opening of a Ho. 2 school would be materially prejudicial to the educational interests of the district.— Dr. Bodell also attended, and urged tbe Board to re open a No. 2 school.—The matter was discussed ab length by fehe Board, and it was eventually agreed that Messrs Udy and Cooper should visit the district, and report to the Board that day fortnight. Waihod;—The Chairman stated that the Government land for tbe erection of a school in the Waihou districb, could now be obtained. The school was at present being held in tbe hall.—lt was agreed by the Board bo defer the building of a new school. Waitakerei.—Mr Thos. Ussher offered the Board two acres of land in Waitakerei for a public school site.—The offer was accepted. . Graftox Road.—An application from the Committee ■ for some permanent improvement in the formation tond drainage of the Grafton Road school grounds was deferred for four months. Whangarei High School.—Mr A. ,H. Mason wrote resigning his appointment as Governor of the Whangaroi High School.— Mr W. A. Carruth was appointed to the vacancy.
