SEVEN HOTELS CLOSED AT
INVERCARGILL

< ' Invercargill, this day. The Invercargill Licensing Committe finally decided nob to grant renewals of licenses to seven hotels, viz. : Prince of Wales, Union, Stag's Head, Supreme Court, Mitpon's, Golden Fleece, and Strathoarn. Mr Kattruy, solicitor for several of the applicants, asked the Committee to appoint) some of the number to accept service of writs, as the decisions are likely to be questioned, with the view of having authorities, ruling on the provisions of the Act, Mr Wade, solicitor, told the Committee that tboir decisions ineanb war to tho knife with the Committee, who would find themselves individually affected in business. He said that the Committee had been guilty of wilful, wanton, and deliberate and gross injustice. Aa the Committee retired, mii dications of dissatisfaction came from the body of the Court. Afc the adjourned meeting oi the Chrietchurch Licensing Committee in tbe case of the Waltbam Arms and Sandridge Hotels, the applications were adjourned to enable the proprietors to renew furniture. Renewals were granted in the following applications, which had been held over from last meeting for improvements to be made :— Occidental, Central, Eastern Shades, Rotberfield, Grosvenor, City,^ Wellington, Royal George, Oxford/ Zetland, Southern Cross and Railway Hotels.
