PARNELL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council waa held lasb evening, when there were present:—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. McCabe), and Crs. Briggs, Page, Pollard, Whitley, Gilmour and Thomes. Leave of absence from the meeting was granted to Cr. Wrighb, who is at Wanganui, and Cr. Walker.

Finance.—Current accounts amounting to £114 la were passed for payment, Bank balances were reported as follows: * —

General rate debit, £288 5a lid ; drainage loan credit, £16112a 2d ; water loan, £143 5s Sd ; water supply credit, £2611s sd.

Legal and Finance.—This Committee recommended (a) that W. H. Kevey be given fourteen days to pay the coet of connecting drain to sewer ; (6) that water consumers in arrears be advertised, giving them fourteen days to pay the current rate, otherwise connection would be cub off; (c) that a special meeting of the Council be called to considor the present water supply bye-laws with a view to alter the same so as to enable t-h'e Council to levy rates according to the valuation of property on the assessment roll, and to consider the anomalies at present existing in the water supply by meter. —Ib was decided to hold the meeting on Thursday week, the 26th Inst. Subsidy-,—The Commissioner of Taxes wrote stating that he would be unable to certity the Council's claim for an advance of subsidy for 1893-94.— Referred *to the Legal and Finance Committee, and ib was also decided to ascertain what steps had been taken by the City Council in the matter.

Water Supply.—Mr A. Tempest wrote in connection with an account for water and drainage rates in the name of E. Mahoney. He said the house in question had not existed since 1893, and that the water had long been cut otf.—lt was decided to inform Mr Tempest that the allotment had not been included with tho Gladstone Road property when the rate vim struck.

Fixed Deposit Receipts.— The manager of the Colonial Bank wrote Biatinc tbafc the fixed deposit receipts of the waterworks and drainage loans sinking funds had matured on the Slat, and ottering to renew them at the present rates.—lt waa agreed that a meeting of the Commissioners should be held to-day.

Charitable Aid.—The Secretary of the Auckland.Hospital and Charitable Aid Board notified that unless the balance of the Council's contribution wero paid before the l^h inst. proceeding would be taken to recover the same.—lt was agreed to pay the amount. .Street Lamp.— The residents of Russell Lane petitioned the erection of a lamp in Ptuasell Lane.—lt was agreed to erect a lamp as soon as the ratepayers hand over the cost of tho lamp. Cbacroft-s'lßEet. — The ratepayers of this street petitioned that the south side of Cracroft-streob and both sido3 of Portlandstreet, should be tarred and eanded.—lt was decided to accede to bho application.
