NEWTON.
The usual meeting of the Newton Boroudi Council waa held last night. Present- Mr Tho?. English (the Mayor), and Crs. Shackelford, Webley, Warnock, Holden, Eouskill, Wilson, Davenport. ■ Ponsonby Road.—A* letter was read from Mr 1). Crawford, of Western Park Terrace, drawing attention to the state of tho footpath extending from the Savings Bank to Kingsford'a bakery.—The letter was received without comment. It waa stated that Mr Crawford was nob a rate-
payer. Streets Committee.-—Tiio Streets Committee made tbo following recommendations :—l. That tho Great Noith Road from King-BtreeD to Beancy'a Foundry be repaired where necessary, and that the largo boulders bo picked up from the foundry to the Arch Hill hotel and metal spread where required. 2. burrey Crescent: We suggest that tho repairing of this street take precodence of others that have been passed by the Council. 3. Kingetreet: This street i 3 much used and we recommend that the ruts be filled in with scoria where necessary end the water channel cleaned out. 4. That N olseloy Road be repaired where required. 5. That before the winter sets in, loads of.metal be deposited os directed in Surrey Crescent and Wolseley Road, to cave the cutting up of same in wet-weather.—The report waa adopted. Tar.—Tho Streets Committee wero authorised to prepare an estimate of the amount of tar required for work during the epring and summer months. Charitable Aid.—A sum of £30 was toted for Charitable Aid.
Annual Ram.—The Mayor gave ( notice to move at tha next meeting of the Counci , *' Thai a rate.of le in the £ be levied on all iwaeaaablo property in the borough."
