DEVONPORT.

The usual meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last evening was atteuded by Messrs E. W. Alison (Mayor), M. Niccol, 0. Mays, S. 0. Macky, G. Lankham, W. Avenell, R. Wynyard, K. Duder, and Hammond.

Waterworks.— Ib was stated that all the waterworks machinery had now arrived from England, the value being £1,485.— The account of Messrs T. and S. Morrin, the conbracbors, was put in and was .referred to the Finance Committee.

Water for Takapuna*—A letter was read from Mr A. E. Devore, asking on whab terms waber would be supplied by the Council to residents at Lake Takapuna oub of the Council's wabermains. —A Commibtee was appointed to reporb on the matter to next meeting of the Board. Triangle.—A letter trom the Auckland Harbour Board, notifying thab the triangle reserve would be leased to the Council aba nominal rental for recreation purposes, was received with thanks.

Grey-street.—Cr. Macky read a requisition from householders in Grey-street, asking for tho street to be altered in order to make the grade easier.—The mabter was referred to the W .rks Committee.

Land for Leash. —lb was decided to offer for lease for 7 years, 2 acres of the Council's properby, near Shoal Bay (ab Vauxhall), bhe conditions to be prepared by bhe Finance and Legal Commibtee. Closing of Roads.—Tho Finance and Legal Committee recommended with reference to Mr W. J. Napier's complaints re alleged closing of roads .in the borough, thab bhe consideration of the complaints re Sboal Bay and Stanley Point roads be deferred till nexb meeting, and that a deputation be appointed bo waib on tho Council's solicitors in order to. obtain an opinion on the matter, and bhat a lebter be senb bo bhe Chief Surveyor in Auckland asking him to inform the Council whether Stanley-street crossts the Devonport Domain, connectic-g wibh the road leading from Lakestreeb. A letter was read from bhe Devonporb Domain Board stating that the Order-in-Council vesting the Domain in the Borough Council made no mention of the road across the Domain.—The report was adopted. Beach Road. — The Mayor moved * "That ib is desirable bhat a breasbwork should be erected along the foreshore of the Beach Road, commencing at the intersection of Bath-streeb and Beach Road, and terminating ab the Government property alongside the North Head (with the exception of the section owned by the Harbour Board "and held under lease).'' The line of breastwork to be placed in such a position thab bhe road shall be nob less than 100 feet in width in any parb. Thab Mr Metcalfe be instructed to report as to the besb scheme mr constructing such breastwork, and to provide a plan for same, and estimated cost of (exclusive of filling) threo sections, viz. : 1, from Bath-streeb to Magazine Rock ; 2, from Magazine Rock to the Devonporb Wharf; 3, from tho Devonport Wharf to Government property."—Mr McNiccol seconded the motion, which was supported by Crs. Macky, Mays and others, and it was carried unanimously.
