NEWTON.
The usual meeting of the Newton Borough CouncU was held lasb nighb. Present :Mr T. English (tho Mayor) and Crs. Shackelford, Donald, "Webley, Davenport and Bouskill. . Water Consumption.— The Town Clerk reported bhab the consumption of water for the week ending March 12th was 107,000 gallons, and tor the week ending March l&th ib was 114,000 gallons.
Princeps .street.— A communication waa read from Messrs Rix, Ross, Bushill, and McGill calling attenbiou to the unhealthy condition of the drain in Princeps-street.— Referred to bhe Streets Committee with power to acb. Accounts.—Accounts amounting to £77 ls 8d were passed for payment. Streets Committee.—The Streets Committee recommended bhab the large boulders in Richmond Hill be picked up, and bhab metal be laid down where necessary and tho footpabh made good bo the bridge, also bhe road in Queen-street bo formed for a further distance of about 2£ chains and scoria be laid on bho same aba widbh of 10ft.—The report was adopted.
