Dctnedin, this day. The fifth annual championship meeting of the Amateur Athletic Association waa held on Saturday on Carisbrook Ground. Ibe day was line overhead, a slight shower, however, falling about one o'clock, lhere was a strong breeze blowing, which, though not cold, marred to some extent whab would otherwise ha^e been an enjoyable outing. The public attended very well, and there must have been fully 3,000 on the ground. The arrangements and general managamentof the meetingwere excellent. . The cinder track was in fine order, buc the grass was naturally Blow after the rain. This, with wind, made it highly improbable that any records would be lowered. The unexpected happened, for in tho Mile Walk the record was lowered in '■ ■"■■• by Bain. The contest betwc.i iuui and Findlay was very pretty; they craw away from the rest at tho start, and kept stride to stride, and shoulder to shoulder, until 20 yards from home. Reeves was in splendid form, but found Low just a tick faster than himself in the 440 yards. Batger was unapproachable over sticks at shorter distance but bis win in the Quarter Mile was a fluke. Mprpeth showed good form at the lodk distances, but youngster Bennett, if he had been fit might have proved too good for him ab the Three Miles. The lad had only just recovered from influenza, and yet he stuck to his man gamely. He is a fine spurter, and Morpeth ia said nob to be so. If he had waited till the last 100 yards before making his effort,, ho might havSToaught Morpeth napping, but) he came too early. Great interest was taken in the banner contest.
