AUCKLAND SOCIETY OF ARTS.
RESULT OF COMPETITIONS.
Me J. L. Holland, Secretary of the Auckland Society of Arts, has handed us the following results of the competition for prizes and certificates of merit in connection with the Auckland Society of Arts :
Class I.—Pupils' studies (A) in crayons, charcoal or monochrome : (1) Shaded study of a head, from the antique. Five entries : C. Goldie, Ist prize; C. Strickley, honorable mention. (2) Shaded study of figure, from the antique. Three entries : Miss V. Kingsford, Ist prize; B. MeKerras, honorable mention. (3) Shaded study of hands or feeb, from the antique (life size). Four entries: C. Strickley, lsb prize ; Miss M. Anderson, bon. mention. (41, Shaded study from the round (ornament), imperial size. Four entries: Claude E. Hemus, Ist prize (B), in colour. (5) Study of still life, in oil. Four entries : E. J. Mead, Ist prize ; B. M"cKerras, hon. mention. (6) Study of still life, in water colours. One entry :No award. (7) Problem in perspective, stated in words and worked in ink. One entry : No award. (8) Geometrical, architectural, or mechanical drawing in line, worked in ink. Six entries: W. J. N. Price, lsb prize; E. Rewcastle, hon. mention.
Class ll.—Original studies direct from nature : (9) Study of animal life (birds, beasts or fishes), in any medium. Two entries. No award. (10) Landscape or marine study in oil or water colours. Nine entries : Miss V. Kingsford, Ist prize ; W. Bowring, hon. mention. (11) Study of foreground in oil, water colour or monochrome. Two entries. No awaid.
Class lll.—Original designs in any medium. New Zealand subjects (indigenous) : (12) Design for decorative panel, natural foliage. Six entries. Miss N, Jones, Nelson, Ist prize; Miss Vogan, Tanranga, hon, mention. For Nob. 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 there were either no entries or no award.
For the best work in the whole of the competitions (in colour) there waH no award, bub Mr E. J. Mead secured the bronze medal for the second best. Mr C. Goldie also won the bronze medal for the second besb work in the whole of the competitions (in monochrome). There was no award for the silver medal for the best work.
