DEVONPORT.

The usual meeting of the Devonport Borough Council lasb evening was attended by Messrs E. W. Alison (Mayor), M. Niccol, Wynyard, Avenel, Lankhatn, Dudef and O. Mays. Bathing.—The Finance and Legal Committee reported that there had been complaints that the sanitary condition of the bathing-bouse near the Victoria Wharf was not satisfactory.— The Foreman of Works was instructed to remedy the same under the superintendence of the Mayor, Mesara Niccol and Mays. Deposit Refunded.—lt was deeded to refund one half of the depoait of £50 (25) on the waterworks contract to Mr Malcolm, the previous resolution of October 9 being reBcinded, Insurance.—lt was decided to insure the waterworks material in the Council s Bhed for £500, and to insure the shed for £40. Waterworks,—The Clerk of Works reported re the new waterworks, that the crown of the reservoir on Mount Victoria had been nearJy completed. It wouldtake aboub 30yds more to finish the reservoir, as far as the concrete was concerned. A starb was made to plaster the crown on Saturday. All work was now stopped on the hill for the next nine or ten weeks. This was to give the concrete a chance to harden before the cement rendering was done inside. The eight-inch main, the Clerk further reported, was slowly coming Devonport-wards from the Lake, now having reached Davis's farm.—The reporb was adopted. Naval Depot.—Mr M. Niccol, in accordance with notice given, moved, " That the Auckland Harbeur Board be requested to grant to the Devonporb Bcrough Council a lease for 50 years, at a nominal rental, of the old naval dep6fc and triangle reserve at the North Shore for recreation purposes only, this Council to improve and beautify the grounds and allow the public the free use of the same, subjecb to such regulations as may be necessary to provent abuses. Mr Niccol said that ib was highly advisable thab the Council should have tke control of this plot of ground, so convenienb as ib was for tbe public. Ib was really more for the sake of the Auckland public and visitors from town thab the reserve was required, and he had no doubb that it would when properly laid oub be a boon to the-place.— Cr. Maya seconded' the motion, and sketched the history of the reserve, which by rights should never have passed away from the control of the local body.-rrTbe motion was agreed to.
