PARNELL.
The forbnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last evening, when there were presenb: Messrs McCabe (Mayor), Briggs, Page, Pollard, Whitley, Walker, Withy, Gilmour. Tar Supply.—The Thames Gas Company wrote offering to supply tar ab 4d per gallon ab the works, the Council to pay cartage and freight.—The Auckland Gas Company explained the reasons for delay in delivering tar, and notified thab no further delay was expected.—The letter was received. Gladstone-street. — Mr Puncan wrote offering to contribute towards Jhe cosb of tarring and sanding the footpath bo the full width in front of bis property in Gladstonestreeb. —Ib was decided to grant the request if the street be tarred and sanded this season. Defective Footpath.—Mr Jaa. Gilbert wrote drawing the attention of the Council to the dangerous state of tho footpath on the west side of Gibraltar Crescent. E. Mahoney and Sons wrote stating that the footpath in front of Miss Mataon'B new cottage had not been improved. They asked that the work might be attended to. —Referred to Streets Committee. Road Dedication. —Mesers Hesketh and Richmond wrote iv connection with the St. George's Bay Road dedication that the Harbour Board's solicitors expected to have an interview with the Secretary and thab they would communicate the results. Some dissatisfaction was expressed by the Councillors ab the delay tbab wbb taking place. It was resolved to instruct Messrs Hesketh and Richmond to forward as soon as possible to the Board in due form the resolution paesed by the Harbour Board and approved by the Council. Last Year's Accounts.—The Government Life Insurance Department requested a copy of the Borough Accounts for the years ended 31sb March 1892 and 93, in connection with loans advanced to the Council.—The request was granted. Finance. — Current accounts to the amounb of £53 16s 8d were passed for payment. Legal and Finance Committee.—This Committee recommended that a Committee be appointed to examine the presenb valuation list and compare ib with thab of lasb year so as bo ascertain where bhe differences in valuation occur; and that instructions should be given to the Town Clerk to sue for unpaid rates in pursuance of previous resolution.—The report was adopted, and the Council meeb in Commibbee this night waek to investigate the valuations, aomo of which are said to be excessive. The Foseman of Works.—This officer reported that the rail had been broken along bhe path leading to the Domain, so that cattle mighb be driven along. He asked that something should be done to prevent thia. The sewer ab the bottom of St. George's Bay Road had broken, owing to the encroachment of the roots of willow trees.—The reporb was received, and ib was decided to ask the local constable to inquire into tbe destruction of rails.
