FLOODS IN THE NELSON DISTRICT.

Although the rain only continued for seventeen hours, the Wai-iti and Wuiroa Rivera were in higher flood than for the pasb twenty-four yeara, and even insignificant little streams stuck up horsamen. The Moutupiko and Motueka Rivers were also heavily flooded, and thecarc bridge on the West Coast coach road, ab the junction of thoae rivers, has been damaged; one row of piles has been scoured out, and the deck of the bridge has sagged a loot. The approaches to the Foxbiil carti-bridge have been rendered unsafe, and the Blightwater bridge to Waimea Weab has the centre pief carried away.. The bridge is hanging by bolts only,; and will nob earry>a horse. On Sunday evening the approaches to these bridges could not be reached. Brightwater was like a lake, At Springgrove the water was three feet deep, and at Kichmond the railway station yard was under water, and cows took refugo in the waiting room. The railway men kept the culverts clear, and no damage was done to the line, but the local bodies will be put to large expensu.
