JUBILEE INSTITUTE FOR THE BLIND.
At tlio annual meeting of subscribers to the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, Mr J. H. Upton (Chairman of trustees) was voted to the chair. There was a good attendance. The Chairman said that the Institute had co debfc cf any kind whatever over its head, nnd bad money to go on with. The following gentlemen were elected trustees: J. H. Upton, John Abbotb, W. H. Smibh, J. T. Boylan, Rev, J. Bates, W, J. Hill, John Reid, E. Withy, J. Thornes. Mr John Abbott referred in feeling terma to the decease of the late Joseph Newman Bnd G. P. Pierce, and their work in connection with the Institute. He said that the Institute was in a splendid position and had £994 12s 5d to its credib in the bauk. Mr Abbotb paid a high tribute of praise to Mr Thornes for his indefatigable exertions on behalf of the institution. The various reports read were put to the meeting and adopted. Mr Abbotb mentioned that Mr F. J. Moeb had presented six copias of the " School History of New Zoaland" to the Institute. Ab the close of the meeting Dr. Purchas exhibited and explained a model by which tho blind could propel a boat). Those present expressed themselves greatly pleased with the modol, one speaker stating that it iraa an ingenious and clever device, and that it would answer every purpoee intended. Dr. Purchas mentioned that the ooat of a boat with the mechanism would be £36, atid asked for assistance and co-opera-tion in tbe matter. A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the proceedings to a close. Bishop Luck sent a note of apology for his absence from the meeting.
