POLICE COURT—THIS DAY.

The charge-sheet at the Police Court this morning was a very light one, and the business only occupied a few minutes.
A first offender, for drunkenness, was fined 5s and costs, or 24 hours' imprisonment. Ja?. Edwards was also charged with drunkennoss, but he did not put in an appearance. Sergeant-Major Pratt stated that tho man was picked up in Abercrombie-street about a forbnighb ago by Constable Ward, and was thought to be in a dying state. He was taken to tho Hospital, and was found to be badly suffering from tho effects of drink. The police were informed that the man would nob be able bo leave the Hospital for a month, and he was remanded till to-day. On inquiry this morning the Hospitafnuthorities informed him the man had left bhab institution on Saturday last. Tho man was in debt to the police to the extent of 7s 6d, cost of a cab. Ho asked that the charge bo Btruck out, which was accordingly done. Henry Jones and Edward Jones were charged with failing to support their aged mother. Complainant did not put in an appearance. Both defendants stated they had never refused to support their mother, and that she lived with ono of them. Tho case was struck out.
