UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL
The University Collega Council met yesterday. There were present ; Sir G. M. O'Rorke (in tho chair), Dr. Gilos, Colonel Haultain, Messrs Udy (Board of Education), J. Dilworth, and Dr. Mackellar.
Whakatane Land.—The Committee appointed to inquire into the condition of the Whakatane Land Reserve and the desirability of cutting it up for leasing allotments, report that ib would be desirable for a member of the Board to inspect tho property. Mr Udy was appointed to go. Air Udy was also requested to roport on Mr Graham's'application.—Sir Maurice O'Rorko proposed that they should appoint a property committee to look into the condition of the various properties they hold. Ho suggested that the Committee should consist of the Chairman (Sir G. M. O'Rorke), Messrs Dilworth, Udy and Colonel Ilaultain.
Academic Costume.—The question of academic costume was left over till next meeting. An informal letter.was, however, read, stating thab the resolution in favour of cap and gown was passed at a large and influential meeting, there being then very litfclo objection. —Ib wns added that trenchers (caps) would cost about lis 6d, and the gowns 33s 6d.
Accounts.—Accounts to tlio amount of £338 lis 6d were passed.
Leave of Absence.—Leavo of absence was granted to Bishop Cowie, Mr E. Hesketh, and the Rev. j. H. Simmonde, who wero unavoidably detained.
