POLICE COURT.—THIS DAY.

Donald. Justices.) Drunkenness. — One first offender was fined ss. or 24 hours. James Lidstone, a second offender, was lined 105,.0r 48 hours' hard labour.

Provoking Language.—Samuel Taylor was charged with having used language calculated to provoke a breach of the peace in Queen-street.—Mr C. N. Brassoy appeared ou behalf of the accused. —George Goldie deposed to seeing two girls run into a shop, and as defeudant was near at hand and calking, witness remonstrated with him. Taylor told him to go to , and threatened to hit him. Ho had known defendant for about 20 years. — Constable Stanyer deposed to having arrested the accused, who repeated that he would strike Mr Goldie.—Mr Bras.ey said that the old man was infirm, irascible, and was continually molested by boys. He was not molesting the girls at all.—C. E. Matthews deposed to seeing the old man being tormented by boys.—Tho Bench decided thao the ends of justice would be met by recording conviction, and discharging accused with a caution.

Obsc-kn c Language.—Mary Jane Green pleaded guilty to breaking windows, aud also to having used obscene language. The damage was 15s.—Tha Bench sentenced the accused to two months' imprisonment on each charge, to run concurrently. Husband and Wife.—Francis Houlihan was charged with having assaulted his wife on the 12th of January. He pleaded not guilty.—Mrs Houlihan and her daughter gave evidence as to tho assault,—Defendant deposed that he asked his wile for twopence to buy a stamp, and she calied him a loafer. He denied having struck his wife. — Mrs Houlihan explained to the Bench that all she wanted was to get her husband off the diink.—Tbe Bench dismissed the case.
