CITY ROWING CLUB.
ANNUAL TRIAL FIVES.
A considerable number of persons assembled near the Wynyard Pier on Saturday afternoon last to witness the annual trial fives held in connection wibh bhe City Rowing Club. The boabhouse was decorated with bunting for the occasion. Invitations had been sent to the various rowing clubs to attend, and were responded to by several crews from the different sheds. Some excellent racing resulted, tho crews being evenly matched. The course was from the reef to the Railway Wharf, and the beam sea made the pulling somewhat difficult. The trials were rowed in four heats, iv the following order:—First heat, W. Phipps's crew beat E. Pjailey's; second heat, R. White's crew beat J. Gallagher's; third heat, A. Bailey's crew beat L. Skinner's ; fourth heab, H. Bailey's crew beab W. Phipps's. The final heab will be rowed, bhia evening, when an exciting finish is expected between bhe crews of A. Bailey, H. Bailey and I_ White.
