The election of Councillors for the Borough ot Birkenhead has been proceeding to-day. Messrs Hardy, Hawkins, Jones, Kay, Porter, Thompson and E. J. White are the candidates for tho seats. The poll closes at six o'clock. Intending competitors would do well to note that entries for the Auckland Swimming Club's races -to be held on next Wednesday night, close'ab the Albert-street Baths at 6 p.m. to-day. Mr J. H. Witheford, who has been absent from his business for three months owing to aerioua illneee, was, we were glad to ace, in town again to-day-
