OUR VOLUNTEERS.
The " A " Battery held bheir usual weekly gun drill last nighb, and had a fair muster under Captain Geddes and Lieutenant O'Brien. Sergeant-Major Doughty put the men through a course of field artillery drill, while Sergeant-Major Bush, P.A., examined four candidates for promotion in theoretical work.
Tho Martini-Henri Rifle Club will hold their lasb competition of bhe quarter tomorrow at Mount Eden, and ib will be some little time before there will be any more Martini shooting, as the Government elassSring has to be got through, besides several company belts, cups, etc., which are usually fired off at this season.
A special meebing of bho local members of the New Zealand Rifle Association and Auckland Maritini-Henri Rifle Club was held in the Drill-ahed lasb nighb, Mr J. C. Soall presiding. Major Skinner was elecbed Chairman of bhe Auckland MartiniHenri Club Committee, vice Mr J. F. Haultain (resigned). It was also unanimously agreed to nominate Mr M. M. McCallum as the Auckland representative on the Council of the New Zealand Rifle Association for the ensuing season. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Whibney for his special prize of a case of Snider ammunibicn for the New South Wales reps. After considerable desultory conversation on shooting topics, in which great disgust was expressed ab the exborbionabe price bhe Government are charging for Martini ammunition (lis 4d per 100 as against 5s charged by bhe Victorian Governmenb bo tho volunteers', some club business was transacted, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. It has been decided to hold these meetings requently to discuss shooting matters.
