SCHEME FOR DISTRICT FOOTBALL.
The first movement in the direction of forming a club to play under what is known as the " district scheme " has been made by the players and residents in tha Ponsonby district. Theotherdistricts will soon, no doubt, follow suit. There was an excellent attendance in tho Ponsonby Hall last evening at the meetinc convened by Messrs Wells and O'Connor. Both senior and junior players were there, and several prominenb residents in the district. Mr A. E. Devore was voted to the chair. In his opening remarks he pointed out that it was very desirable that district clubs should be formed, urging the reasons that he urged so well at the annual meeting of the Eugby Union. Mr O. Welle also addressed the meeting, saying that ho thought the district scheme should be given a fair trial, as it was evident that under tho existing system the interest in football was somewhat on the wane. On the motion of Mr Wells, seconded by Mr J N. Baxter, itwas unanimously carried, " That it is desirable to form a club to be called the Ponsonby District Football Club " A list of those willing to join the new' club was taken, over thirty members being ab once enrolled. Officers were elected as follows:—I resident Mi , A. E. Dovore; Vice-Presidente, M»-sS T. T. Masefield, C. S. Wright, \ S Russell, H. Andorson, J. PL Upton, E. CoorJer. John Gittos, W. Jones, T. Peacock W J. Courtney, M. McLean, and the Rev 'W. Calder ; Captain, Mr O. Welle; Deputy-captain, Mr T. O'Connor ; Secretary, Mr A. Cooke; Treasurer, Mr J. A. Cooper ; General Committee, Messrs Stichburv K. Maeefield and Ridings. It was decided to retain the colours of the Ponsonby. Club, viz., blue and black. Several speakers, re the boundaries of the proposed new districts, urged that it wae desirable to represent to the Rugby Union that Ponsonby had been unfairly treated in the matter of area. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.
