The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve to be £16,070,000, boing an increase of £2,234,000 as compared with the previous week. The proportion of the reserve to the liabilities ia 40-60 per cent. Consols are 95|. Three months bills aro discounted at 4 per cent. New Zealand four per cent, inscribed stock, 102 ; three and a-half ditto is 95. The English wheat markeb is firm at 443. Mutton : Canterbury, 4|d per lb ; Wellington, 3jjd ; Canterbury lamb, sd. Beef; Forequarters, 3gd per lb; hindquarters,
'fid. There is nothing doing in New Zealand hemp. Wellington, fair quality, is nominally £21 per ton. South Australian wheat is farm at 44s 6d ; Victorian is steady at 445. Sugar: German beet, 13s 4£d; Java, 15s. beat Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, is 55s 6d. Bank of New Zealand shares, £1 paidup, £9. ________
