MASTER BAKERS' ASSOCIATION.

THE RULES,

A meeting of the master baker, of Auckland and suburbs belonging to the Master '' Bakers' Association was held last evening In Mr Dallen. room, Queen-street. The TmainOSs of the meeting was the discussion df the proposed rules Of the Association. There was a very good attendance, Mr Wilson presiding. The rules were taken Ufiatim. Some little discussion took place As to tho holiday question. The general opinion was that the men should w_rk their full 60 hours a week ; and if thoy obtained a holiday they should work extra hours for it, so as to make up the time, or should have less pay. -The rule states that the Men shall work 60 hours a week, and was carried. Thoother rules of the Association werecartied with slight amendment- They provide for the payment of a uniform rate of wages, for working as far aB possible in unison With the Bakers' and Pastrycooks' Union, for minimising credit, for the prevention of iiaderselling . that none but members of the Bakers' and Pastrycooks' Union shall be employed ; that only one apprentice Shall be allowed in each bakehouse; and that any miller eupplyihg an underseller shall be notified of the fact, and if he continues to do so shall receive no patronage from members of the Association. • A letter waa read from the Bakers' and Pastrycooks' Union stating that the Union could not agree to the allowing of one apprentice to each bakehouse. It was agreed to abide by the rules of the Association, as above. . On the motion of Mr Kent, a committee was appointed to wait on the bakers not yet Belonging to the Association to persuade them to join. Mr Kent introduced the subject of the rumour that the bakeis' barter, were to join the Carters' Union. . One or two members said -hiy would not employ Union men. The work was just suitable for boys, and tfirpiib-o would not like to have the price of bread raised so as to pay unnecessarily heavy wages to men. It was resolved that the names of all master bakers who havo joined the Association should be published after the 15th Some little discussion took place as to an uncertanty existing over the price of bread. It was stated authoritatively that the price is 3d net cash, with a higher price if booked.
