THE GISBORNE MURDER.
ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT.

Gisborne, this day. The case in which Wm. Black is charged with the murder of Robt. Streeter, aboub March lasb, commenced yesterday, before Mr Booth, R.M. Mr A. M. Nolan appeared for the Crown, and Mr Lincoln Rees for the accuaed. Dr. Innes gave evidence as to rinding gunshot wounds in the head and lead in tbe brain.
Elizabeth Streeter, wife of the deceased, deposed thab the prisoner had stayed at her house for the last twelve months. Streeter and Black took a fencing contract in February last and left town. Since then she had received letters from Black which had been burnt after reading. The prisoner came to town several times and lodged at her house. At the end of March Black said Streeter had left, and he came to town a fortnight since. That was the only conversation she ever had with Black aboub her husband. '
Mary Price deposed thab sho went to Streeter's house and found Mrs Streeter and Black in a bedroom together. She said, " Where would you two be it Bob comoß in now ?" Black replied, "No fear of him coming in." She had a conversation with Black about Streeter's disappearance, and the rumours againßt Black. Tho latter said he "knew they would never find him ; he is stowed away on some big vessel." Witness said, " They say you went shooting in tbe bush, and came back withoub him." He replied he only wenb two hundred yards in the bush before they sab down and smoked. Mrs Streeter had torn up photos belonging to her husband's friends in the presence of witness. She said hor husband had gone to Napier.
